Lutino Gouldian Finch Project

Since the introduction of Gouldian Finches to the U. S. in the 1930’s, there has been considerable interest in bringing forth color mutations which have usually been imported here from other European and Asian countries. There is a new mutation, the lutino (yellow albino) Gouldian Finch, which was featured in the NFSS July/August 04 bulletin.

Winnie McAlpin, breeder of the Delmar Gouldian Finch bloodline in Cleveland, TN, is working to establish a resilient strain of lutino Gouldian Finches here in the United States. The Lutino variety is also present in Belgium and Japan.
